GUWAHATI:The Health and Enforcement branches of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) conducted a two-day drive in the Fatasil, Athgaon, Kumarpara, Japorigog, Sarumotoria and Borbari areas of the city on January 27 and January 28 and found that out of about 70 business establishments which were inspected, 29 were operating with various deviations from the relevant rules. Of these, 13 business establishments were sealed for various violations of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation Act, 1969.
The inspected business premises included hotels, fast food stalls, hardware stores, sweetmeat shops, meat shops, pharmacies and scrap yards.
Fines were also enforced and notices were served under the terms of the GMC Act for violations of specific rules and regulations. During the two-day drives, a total of Rs 1.36 lakh was collected as penalty.
Later, GMC officials also conducted a drive on Saturday in the Chandmari, Lokhra Chariali and Betkuchi areas.
A total of 13 business establishments were found violating various rules and an amount of over Rs 6.07 lakh was collected as penalty.
