Guwahati: This bit of news might come as relief for many households of Guwahati who have been facing water issues. Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has set up a team who is working to ensure that water supply to households of the city is uninterrupted.
"The team is doing round the clock job to make sure about the availability of water supply and regrets any inconvenience that valued customers had to go through during the disconnection process," the Corporation said in a Facebook post.
The Corporation had earlier carried out a drive to disconnect water supply of those households who have failed to pay the taxes.
GMC has three water supply treatment plants located at Panbazar, Satpukhuri and Kamakhya. Besides, there are nine deep tube wells at various locations of Guwahati available for free public use. Apart from this, it has 12 mobile water tankers of different capacity used to supply water in corporation areas. The water supplied to Guwahati households is pumped from the river Brahmaputra.
However, there has been instances when GMC had failed to provide water to all citizens of the city. The corporation has been able to reach only 30% of the city's population through its water supply network. This has forced several residents to turn to private water suppliers and buy water at exorbitant rates. But now with the renewed effort from the Corporation officials, the water supply situation is expected to improve in Guwahati.
