Guwahati police held smuggler; 300 gm heroin seized

GUWAHATI: Acting on reliable information, the Guwahati police on Tuesday seized around 300 gm of heroin from a rented apartment in the Tetelia area near Jalukbari and arrested a drug smuggler Alom Ali.

Police sources said that the seizure was made after Alom Ali was intercepted at Tetelia while he was travelling in an Alto car (AS01 EH 9902). A raid was subsequently carried out at Alom's rented flat in the area and the heroin was discovered inside 22 soap cases. Several number plates of vehicles were also found inside the flat.

The sources said that Alom procures drugs from a person with the surname of Bodo who is based in Meghalaya. Alom then distributes the drugs in various areas of Guwahati and south Kamrup, they said, adding that cash amounting to Rs 53,490 was recovered from Alom's possession.
