GUWAHATI: The crackdown on drugs continues in Guwahati with raids being conducted in various areas of the city every day. In a major drug haul, the Guwahati Police seized 276 cartons of Eskuf cough syrup from the Jorabat area on Wednesday night.

Cough Syrup Bottles Captured from Drug Peddlers

Briefing about the bust to the media, Guwahati Commissioner of Police (CP) Munna Prasad Gupta said, "Acting on a tip-off, the ADCP (East), ACP Basistha along with Basistha Police and Jorabat Police intercepted a truck (NL01AB9942) plying towards Tripura from Guwahati. The truck was transporting a total of 276 cartons of Eskuf cough syrup. The cartons contained a total of 44,160 bottles and its approximate value is around Rs 65 lakh. The driver of the truck has been arrested."

Gupta underlined that from May 10 to June 9, as many as 51 cases under the NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act have been registered. As stated by Gupta, during the period, 81 persons have been arrested and several vehicles have been seized. Moreover, the police have recovered Rs 9,38,000 cash.

The CP said that raids are being conducted based on intelligence inputs.

"The police are conducting random checks on the entry and exit gates of Guwahati. Checks are also being conducted in the boundary areas of neighbouring States to Guwahati," the CP said. During his address, the CP also appealed to the rental owners to do verification of the tenants to avoid problems with the law.
