Guwahati: The forecourt of the Guwahati Railway station on Tuesday got waterlogged after heavy showers wreaked havoc across the city last night.

Various parts of Guwahati witnessed waterlogging after a heavy downpour drenched several areas of the city since Monday night.

To make things worse, water penetrated through the residential areas and houses in Hatigaon, Chandmari, Zoo Road, Beltola, Rukminigaon, and other vicinities of the city on Tuesday morning.

The Assam State Disaster Management (ASDMA) authority has provided two numbers–1070 and 1079—for emergency assistance to the affected people in Guwahati.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday predicted that the northeastern region will continue to receive heavy rainfall till June 17 and also issued a red alert for the state of Assam and Meghalaya. 

Fairly widespread/widespread rainfall accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning/heavy to very heavy with extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places is most likely to continue over the Northeast till June 17.

incessant rain coupled with thunderstorms have wreaked havoc across Assam and Meghalaya and has reduced the daily activities to a standstill.

The people were severely affected as a result of it; some business establishments were forced to shut down, people got stuck in traffic jams for a long time in some areas, and the livelihoods of some were even jeopardized.
