GUWAHATI: The prime accused Vikas Jain, Chayan Saikia, and Ashok Barman in the Guwahati's "infamous rave party case" were produced before a court on Saturday and remanded to police custody.

According to the order by the Sessions Court in Guwahati, Barman has been remanded to police custody for six days, while, Jain and Saikia have been remanded for two days.

Six people were held consuming cocaine at the birthday party of a man Amit Baruah on the evening of August 13 in an apartment in the Kharguli Hills area of the city. As per the police, a rave party was organized.

A total of 18 guests, who were attending the party including the organizer Vikas Jain, were arrested. Four kilograms of cocaine and weed of different types were found in their possession, Guwahati City Commissioner of Police Harmeet Singh was quoted as saying in a PTI report.

The arrested men were initially remanded to judicial custody for some days on the basis of the crime they committed.

The arrested persons were not only involved in buying, selling, and consuming illegal drugs but had also flouted Covid-19 protocols by gathering in huge numbers and organizing a party, which is prohibited by the state government, Singh said.

Moreover, an investigating officer in the Guwahati rave party case was suspended by the city police department for alleged negligence in duty. The officer in question is ASI Taraprasad Singh of Latasil police station.
