Guwahati: Satgaon ASI Investigating Rape Case Transferred as ‘Punishment’

GUWAHATI: The Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) of Satgaon PS, Nilotpal Deka, was transferred to another district as "punishment" following the horrifying Satgaon rape case in Guwahati. According to an order issued by the Home (A) Department on Wednesday, Deka was transferred and assigned to the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Headquarters in Dima Hasao.

In addition, the event resulted in the reserve close of Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police (ASI) of Satgaon PS, Alakesh Baruah, who was the investigating officer in the matter. The brutal gangrape of an elderly mother and her disabled daughter by eight assailants who stormed into their home in Guwahati's Satgaon neighbourhood and performed the heinous crime is the subject of the investigation.

Although the incident occurred previously, it wasn't brought to light until Tuesday. According to reports, the daughter is differently-abled. The attackers allegedly continued after the horrible deed by smearing chilli powder on the mother's and daughter's privates. According to reports, serious accusations of covering up the horrible act are levelled at the Satgaon police. Police allegedly did not immediately file rape-related charges in their case. The issue was only revealed after the Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) medical report confirmed rape, which prompted the police to add charges under IPC Section 376 to the case.

According to reports, the police warned the victims and the neighbours not to discuss the incident with the media.

According to some of the neighbours, the police summoned them to the police station on various occasions without a valid reason out of fear that the mother might contact the media.

Four of the accused are currently behind bars, and four others are still at large with the police pursuing them.

Following the dissolution of her marriage, the daughter, who is now 22 years old, had been living with her mother at her home in Taltala in Guwahati's Satgaon. At that time, a 55-year-old guy named Arun Pradhan, also known as Loote Pradhan, made attempts to seduce the mother. However, the Pradhan family rejected this relationship, which caused conflict between the two families.
