GUWAHATI: Speeding dumpers lost control and killed three persons in separate accidents in the capital city Guwahati last night killing three on the spot. 

As per reports, two motorcycle riders lost their lives on the spot last night after being hit by a speeding dumper in the city's Khanapara area. 

Onlookers said that the dumper was traveling towards Meghalaya at a breakneck speed. 

Meanwhile, police arrived at the spot and took custody of the bodies. They sent the bodies for post-mortem and other such formalities to the nearest hospital. 

The identities of the deceased are not known yet. According to sources they were traveling on a Bajaj Avenger motorcycle after being hit by the dumper from behind. 

Most dumper accidents happen at night due to poor visibility and some drivers also remain intoxicated during the night which hampers their driving. 

In a tragic accident a few days ago a 7-year-old minor lost his life near Karipana Tinali area in Lanka under Hojai district on Monday.

As per reports, a speeding dumper rammed the boy identified as Afaz Alom when he was returning home after offering the Fajr Namaz at a nearby mosque.

After the incident, the police seized the dumper truck bearing registration number AS-02CC-9663, however, the driver managed to escape before he could be caught.

In 2020, Assam witnessed 6533 accidents leading to 2629 deaths. In 2019, there were 8350 accidents and 3208 deaths emerging as more deadly than the Covid-19 virus, Chandra Mohan Patowary, the former Transport Minister of Assam said while attending a state-level concluding ceremony of 'National Road Safety Month' which was held last year in Guwahati.

According to recent statistics, the total number of accidental deaths in the country has increased by 18.8 percent (from 1,46,354 to 1,73,860) in 2021 over 2020. A total of 4,03,116 road accident cases were reported in 2021. Road accident cases in India have increased from 3,54,796 in 2020 to 4,03,116 in 2021.
