GUWAHATI: Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has been carrying out eviction drives against unauthorised/illegal street vendors for encroaching footpaths of the city.

Street vendors of the areas: Birubari, Ganeshguri, Beltola, Kahilipara, Aath mile etc. were evicted during the drives. Drives are being carried out for the last 3 (three) days w.e.f. 02-06-2022 to 04-06-2022 (today).

The eviction drives are conducted in the interest of public service by the Enforcement Branch of GMC. It aimed mainly at clearing the traffic congestion created by the street vendors.

Notably, the Enforcement wing of GMC plans to intensify its eviction drives in the upcoming days.

In yet another similar incident, the Health branch of Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) conducted a drive in the Lakhiminagar area, Hatigaon of Guwahati city today (June 4, 2022).

A total of 3 (three) business establishments including two guest houses and a ladies parlour were inspected during the drive, out of which, 1 (one) trade was found to be operating without a valid trade licence. Health and hygienic issues were detected in 1(one) number of trades.

As per provisions of the GMC Act, the trade operating with violations was issued notice.

Trades with health and hygiene issues- Hotel Ganga Niwas, Seujban Path, Lakhiminagar, Hatigaon.
