Guwahati: Youth swept away by Brahmaputra's water current

Guwahati: A college student named Dhiraj Deka was swept away by the current of the river Brahmaputra near the Raj Bhavan in Uzanbazar here on Sunday.

According to companions who were present during the incident, a friend named Gunjan Das jumped into the river to rescue Dhiraj Deka, but failed. Das himself was saved by another friend named Rafique.

Eyewitnesses said that they requested some fishermen to save Deka with the help of their boats, but they refused.

Deka has remained untraced till the time of filing of this report.
