GUWAHATI: Stuck in traffic at any place in Guwahati? There are many who should be blamed for it, including the agencies that are directly involved in vehicular traffic in the metropolitan city. The agencies aren’t even afraid of violating orders of the Gauhati High Court that are meant to ease traffic snarls in the State capital.
Here is a case study. In connection with a PIL related to traffic congestion in Guwahati, a division bench of the Gauhati High Court comprising Chief Justice Ajai Lamba and Justice Soumitra Saikia directed the respective agencies on January 7, 2020, “It has been noticed that buses stop at Jalukbari Rotary Point, although there is no bus stop at that point. We, hereby, direct all concerned agencies to ensure that buses do not stop at Jalukbari Rotary Point.”
However, the situation on the ground is such that every day at anytime one sees a large number of buses stop on all sides of Jalukbari Rotary Point, allow passengers to board them or get alighted from them. This is blatant violation of the order of the High Court, and this is happening under the very nose of the agencies concerned who were asked by the bench to implement the order. Is there any cure for such an ailing traffic management in Guwahati?
