GUWAHATI: Durga Puja is one of the festivals celebrated with great pomp in the city of Guwahati, and in order to attract the largest number of tourists, many organising committees for the celebration put in a lot of effort as well as money into the presentation as well as decorations. Major Durga Puja celebration committees of the city select specific themes and create the pandal and the idols based on that theme. The following are some of the highest-budget Durga Puja celebrations in the city. The Bishnupur Sarbojonin Durga Puja has turned out to be the highest-budget Durga Puja committee of the city this year, with about Rs 50 lakh in the books. They have adopted a temple theme and have tried to replicate the Vrindavan Chandrodaya Mandir. The pandal itself stands 130 feet tall and was created by artisans from Kolkata. With a budget of around Rs 40 lakh, the Pandu Rest Camp Durga Puja Committee comes second on this list. They have constructed an aquarium-themed puja pandal with 17-foot-tall idols under the efforts of expert artists from the neighbouring state. It was mentioned that the idols were constructed with a budget of Rs 3 lakh.
The Bimalnagar Durga Puja Committee has adopted the theme of the ancient Maya civilization for this year. With a budget of around Rs 30 lakhs, this is the third on the list of the highest-budget Durga Puja celebrations in the city, as they have tried to showcase the ambience of ancient human societies.
