GUWAHATI: Giving some relief to the people residing near the Silsako Beel of the city, the Gauhati High Court has provided an interim relief till 14.06.2023, and/ or consideration of the representation, whichever is later. The petitioners shall not be evicted from their respective land and house till then, said the Court.
A writ petition was filed by the petitioners to direct the competent authorities to halt the eviction drive as the petitioners are concerned and to grant reasonable opportunity to the petitioners to make representation before the authority and to inform the petitioners as to why the land of the petitioners was to be acquired.
The petitioners mentioned that the eviction was initiated without any notice and that a reasonable period of time will be required for the petitioners to make alternative arrangements. Considering the submission, the Court granted time to the petitioners till 14.06.2023 to make representation before the Deputy Commissioner, Kamrup Metropolitan along with supporting documents and provide their e-mail address and /or mobile number containing messaging applications such as WhatsApp, Telegram, etc. and shall also be prepared to give the undertaking to vacate the land within such reasonable time as the Deputy Commissioner may so prescribe.
The order also mentioned that, ”On such an application being filed, the Deputy Commissioner, Kamrup (M), Guwahati shall sympathetically consider the said representation in the light of the prayer made to grant a reasonable time to make alternative arrangements, and if deemed appropriate, to grant some reasonable time to the petitioners to remain in the house under their possession.” The petitioners have been instructed to produce a certified copy of the Court order before the Deputy Commissioner, Kamrup Metropolitan.
