High Court rates Guwahati counsels high

GUWAHATI: A division bench of the Gauhati High Court led by Chief Justice Sandeep Mehta today admitted the fact that Gauhati has good counsel like other metropolises like Kolkata and Delhi. The matter came up while a counsel sought an adjournment of a petition on the ground that a counsel from Kolkata would come and take up the case.

A surprised Chief Justice then said, “Guwahati has got such good counsel; why do you need people from Kolkata? Do you have any question about the competence of Guwahati counsels? We find them very good. This can’t be grounds for adjournment. You don’t threaten us with the presence of counsel from Kolkata or Delhi. We are not bothered.”
