 GUWAHATI: The Central Bureau of Communication, Guwahati, organized a photo exhibition celebrating 75 years of India’s Independence and the initiatives of the Union Government in the last 9 years at the Bidyamandir Higher Secondary School in Pandu, Guwahati from Tuesday. The two-day photo exhibition will continue till July 26.

This event featured captivating photo panels on freedom fighters and their lives along with various schemes and achievements of the Government for the people of the Northeast. More than 40 panels are displayed in the exhibition. Chief guest Bibhash Chandra Das Purakayastha, former Principal, Pandu College, said that, “This exhibition portrays the legendary stories of our Unsung heroes of the freedom struggle. I am happy to see that the freedom fighters of Northeast states such as Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur etc. are also prominently displayed in these panels. We celebrate our 75 years of independence, because of their sacrifices. We should always remember their ideals and glory.”

Another speaker, Kanaklata Dey Saha, Councillor, Ward No. 4, Maligaon, said in her address,“This exhibition aims to aware and inform people about the sacrifices of our freedom fighters towards the independence struggle. Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav is a great initiative by the Government and the Central Bureau of Communication has organized many activities among students and public to aware and informs them about this initiative.”

Jane Namchu, the Additional Director General, North East Zone, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting pointed out that the Central Bureau of Communication is organizing many programmes and exhibitions across the entire Northeast region which enables the public to learn about the various schemes and policies of the Government. Jane Namchu further added that this programme will also help the students to get the opportunity to learn and understand the struggles of freedom fighters. They also get to understand the real meaning of freedom once they get to know the efforts it took to get it.

Various competitions, including art and open quiz among students, were held in the exhibition on the opening day. There will be a dance competition among students on patriotic theme on the second day. The artistes of Song & Drama Division under CBC, Guwahati also performed various cultural programmes in the exhibition, stated a press release.
