GUWAHATI: From January 1 of next year, the system of granting permissions for the construction of houses will be only through the online mode by abolishing the existing 'manual' system of granting permissions for house construction in the cities of the state. In the first phase, this system will be only in the cities falling under the master plan of the state.
The Directorate of Municipal Administration took this decision on Wednesday at the meeting of Urban Affairs Minister Ashok Singhal with officials.
The minister held several other important meetings with top officials of the Swachh Bharat Mission, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana [Urban] and Irrigation Department and took stock of various activities of the departments.
Reviewing various functions of the Directorate of Municipal Administration, Singhal gave necessary instructions to ensure proper implementation of 'The Assam Integrated Housing Byelaws 2022', integrating the permit fee for the construction of houses and covering everybody in urban areas with the facility of the integrated web portal.
In another meeting, the minister reviewed the progress of the work of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) in various municipal areas of the state. He expressed concern over the slow pace of work of the scheme in some districts of the state like Sonitpur, Tinsukia, Barpeta, Dibrugarh, Karbi Anglong etc.
Singhal took stock of the functioning of the Swachh Bharat Mission, Assam, and reviewed the solid waste disposal management projects under missions in 42 cities. In the interest of proper waste management, he took up long-term plans for at least the next 30 years and took stock of the land required in proportion to the population of the cities.
