Guwahati: After the detection of several coronavirus positive cases among the personnel, the Basistha Police Station in Guwahati has emerged as a proverbial hotspot of the infectious disease.
The OC of the Station, Nabajit Das Baghri, who himself has tested positive for the virus, said that the surge in cases began earlier this month with the onset of a "boom" in Guwahati.
"Coronavirus cases were initially reported in the month of July, and all the precautions are being taken as per the Government prescribed guidelines. As on today, the number of cases among the personnel has risen to 11 cases", Baghri told The Sentinel Digital.
Baghri further added that sanitation drives have also been carried out at the station. "Look, all the arrangements are being made as per the requirements. Thus, there have been sanitation drives as well. All the measures are being taken to ensure that there is no further spread of the infection", he added,
Revealing that 3 out of the 11 coronavirus police personnel at the station have recovered from the infection, he added, "When cases are detected, the patients are taken away for treatment. I, myself, have been put under isolation and am now at my home", he said.
"The situation is normal at the police station. We are taking the necessary precautions and dispensing the duties as per requirement. Tests are now being conducted on all of us after some of the officials tested positive", a constable of the station told this publication under the condition of anonymity.
It needs mention here that the number of Assam Police personnel, who have tested positive for the dreaded coronavirus, increased to 1,208 on Monday. Confirming the news, additional director general of police (law and order), Assam, GP Singh in a tweet on Monday said out of the total infected Assam Police personnel, 936 have recovered from the disease.
