Human Chain against Corruption by School Children to Observe on October 30

GUWAHATI: Like the preceding years, the Central Vigilance Commission, this year, has decided to observe the Vigilance Awareness Week from October 28 to November 2, 2019, with the theme ‘Integrity- A Way of Life’. Accordingly, the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti- Corruption, Assam with assistance from the Chief Minister’s Special Vigilance Cell, Assam, has decided to observe the week in a befitting manner with involvement of district administrations of the State and come up with a programme for the ‘Vigilance Awareness Week, 2019’ that will incorporate a number of mass awareness programmes. The inaugural function was held at the Directorate, with an in-house session chaired by the Special Judge, Assam, Gautam Barua, the IGP of Directorate Anurag Tankha and the Public Prosecutor for Guwahati High Court PP Boruah, along with the prosecution staff to deliberate on legal issues and challenges in investigation and prosecution on Monday.

On October 30, 2019, a ‘Human Chain’ against corruption by school children, has been planned all over Guwahati city, where the students shall display placards and banners carrying the pictures and slogans on the theme and will also take the integrity pledge.

The Directorate is also organizing a prize- money inter-school creative writing competition among the students of Class IX to Class XII on the topic “Integrity- A Weapon to Curb the Tyranny of Corruption” or “The Monster of Corruption is eating into the Socio-Economic Growth of the Nation”. All the Deputy Commissioners of districts have been requested to organize the competition at the district level and send best entries for state-level scrutiny. The details of the competition shall be available with the district authorities.

Similarly, a prize money poster making competition is being organized wherein the competitors shall initially submit the scanned posters online, from which the best entries shall be called to Guwahati to display the same physically before a state panel of judges. The state-level winners of both competitions shall be awarded with Cash Rewards of Rs 10,000, Rs 7,500, and Rs 5,000 and two consolation prizes of Rs 1,000 each.

Moreover, with a view to creating mass awareness against corruption, the Directorate has distributed sample posters to all DCs and SPs for wide publicity. An SMS campaign on Anti-Corruption issues in liaison with the Mobile Service Providers has also been planned.

A workshop on “Challenges in investigation of Anti-Corruption Cases” is also being organised by the Directorate for field level officers of Assam Police, stated a press release.
