GUWAHATI: The AASU (All Assam Students' Union) and 30 other ethnic organizations of the State are going to stage a human chain in Guwahati on October 8, 2020 demanding cancellation of the CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) and the draft EIA (Environment Assessment Act) 2020, besides proper compensation to the families affected by the Baghjan oil well blowout.

Talking to The Sentinel, All Kamrup (M) District Student Union president Kusha Rongpi and general secretary Dibyajyoti Medhi said that the Central Government imposed the CAA on the people of Assam and the entire Northeast forcible. "If the CAA is implemented in Assam it will pose a serious threat to the indigenous people of Assam. So long the CAA is there, the AASU will continue to stage agitation," Medhi said, and added, "If the EIA 2020 Bill becomes an Act, the rich biodiversity of the State will be badly desecrated. The State will lose control over the reserve forest near the international borders."
