Identify your spark to become a civil servant: APSC Chairman

GUWAHATI: An awareness workshop on ‘Examinations Conducted by APSC’ was conducted by Cotton University on Saturday, where Bharat Bhushan Dev Choudhury, Chairman of the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC), was the keynote speaker. The workshop was held at the Kalaguru Bishnuprasad Rabha (KBR) Auditorium by the Varsity’s Capacity Building Centre (CBC) in collaboration with the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC).

Bharat Bhushan Dev Choudhury said, “To become a civil servant, it is not just enough to study hard. You must identify your spark or inner reason that provokes you to keep working towards achieving your goal”. He also emphasized that students should also pursue their passions alongside their studies to become a complete human being.

Emphasizing the importance of smart work rather than hard work while preparing for competitive exams, Choudhury said, “It is not important how you perform. It all depends on how others perform in the examination. Hence, every mark matters.” Speaking at length on the selection procedure, Choudhury added that one has to deal with both predictable and unpredictable questions when appearing for the prelims. The key task of any civil service aspirant should be to convert the unpredictable questions into predictable ones. He suggested that one should regularly follow the trending news, stick to a good but minimum number of books, follow model question papers, and plan and organize their study.

The workshop is one of a series of workshops conducted by the APSC in different districts of Assam to create awareness about different examinations conducted by the Commission. Meanwhile, Vice Chancellor of Cotton University Professor Ramesh Chandra Deka said in his address that students need to persevere in order to clear competitive examinations.

Director of CBC, Dr. Sangeeta Barthakur, motivated the students to join the civil service to be able to bring about the changes they wanted to see in the society around them and in their motherland. The event, which was moderated by Associate Professor, Department of Statistics, Dr. Ruma Talukdar, saw the participation of more than 400 students, faculty members, and staff, stated a press release.
