GUWAHATI: The All Assam Tribal Sangha (AATS) and the Coordination Committee of the Tribal Organizations of Assam (CCTOS) have greeted Himanta Biswa Sarma for taking oath as the Chief Minister of the State. The two tribal organizations, however, raised the demand for implementation of the recommendations of the high-level committee on Clause VI of the Assam Accord.

In a statement issued on Monday, Aditya Khagrali, who is the secretary-general of the AATS and chief coordinator of the CCTOA, said, "The Constitutional rights of the indigenous people of the State should be protected by implementing the recommendations submitted to the government by the High-Level Committee that had been constituted for the purpose.

"The new government should do all the works that couldn't be done by the previous government – freeing tribal belts and blocks from encroachment, providing land rights to tribal through the implementation of the Forest Rights Act in the State.

"We appeal to the new government to solve the problem of floods and work for equal development of all communities in the State."
