Guwahati: Along with the different parts of the country Guwahati too celebrating the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on Thursday.

Sishu Sarothi, a Non-Government organization (NGO) at Ramkrishna Mission Road, Birubari, Guwahati celebrates the special day among more than 100, especially disabled children.

The sports in-charge of the NGO, Kandorpo Saikia said," we have organized musical chair game along with other games for the children. There is also a fun game for the parents as well."

Keteki Bordoloi, the Executive Director of the NGO said, "Over 130 enrolled children are there. During the lock-down, we too had online classes with them. She further said, we have called them today to have fun and to play games to mark the celebration of the day with them and we will also hold a program in the evening via Zoom call and Facebook live on the theme 'Building back better'.

The NGO has been providing the children's with education from

all directions so that all the people with disabilities can move forward together with the rest of the society in a healthy, physical, mental, and educational way.

Since all these people were not provided any assistance from the government during the Covid 19 lock-down, the families of these children were provided with various aid and supplies of necessary goods from the Association.

It is a leading not-for-profit organization with a proven track record in the fields of early intervention and rehabilitation, education, livelihoods, advocacy, and awareness-raising as well as protection of rights and legal assistance for children and persons with disabilities in North-East India.

International Day of Persons with Disabilities is an observance promoted by the United Nations since 1992. The goal of observing the Day is to foster an awareness of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights, and well-being of persons with disabilities.
