GUWAHATI: Guwahati Police is putting in effort to combat its war against drugs. The police, based on secret information, busted a huge drugs nexus and apprehend peddlers including women. The women peddlers were from Manipur.
On Saturday evening, based on a tip-off, the Crime Branch team along with the Dispur Police station conducted a search operation at House No. 40 in Purvanchal Path, Near Sun Valley Hospital, Downtown, and recovered suspected psychotropic substances. The team apprehended three individuals from Manipur.
According to sources, the peddlers are identified as James Hingba (33), Nikhil Leimapokpam (30), and Junaid Ahmed (26), all three hailing from Manipur. The team seized 24 soap boxes containing suspected heroin, weighing about 280 gms without soap cases.
On the other hand, a Special Operation Group (SOG) team of West Guwahati Police District (WGPD) along with Garchuk Police Station apprehended Abdul Alim (28) of Ramdia under Hajo Police Station in Kamrup district.
According to sources, the team apprehended him when he came to buy drugs in his brand new Swift Dzire car at Boragaon, near Ganesh Mandir. With his help, the police could apprehend two women who came to handover the heroin packets to him at Hotel Highway Palace, Lalmati, under Basistha Police Station. The two women peddlers are identified as N Kaine (30) and Sara (41) both from Manipur. The team conducted a search operation and recovered 20 soap cases concealed with heroin and Rs 22,400 in cash. All the items were seized as per the NDPS Act.
According to sources, after interrogating the two female peddlers, another search operation was conducted under the ACP Azara Division at the Hotel New Crystal in TRP Road Machkhowa that was booked by the women peddlers and recovered Rs 1, 50,000 in cash.
