GUWAHATI: A price rise is a normal process. However, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government has been able to keep the price rise under control, said state BJP spokesperson Rupam Goswami.
Addressing the media at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan headquarters on Monday, Goswami said, “We have been personally affected by the price hike, and the BJP-led government has been able to control the price hike. The inflation rate was 10.88 per cent in 2009, when Congress was in power. Similarly, the inflation rate was 11.99 per cent in 2010, 8.86 per cent in 2011, 9.31 per cent in 2012, and 11.06 per cent in 2013. But when Narendra Modi became Prime Minister in 2014, the inflation rate dropped to 6.67 per cent. Inflation stood at 4.91 per cent in 2015, 4.95 per cent in 2016, 3.33 per cent in 2017, 3.94 per cent in 2018, 3.73 per cent in 2019, and 6.62 per cent in 2020. Also, the inflation rate has been indifferent since the last two years.”
Addressing the media, BJP spokesperson Subhash Dutta alleged that “Congress and corruption are the two sides of the same coin. Before criticizing the present government, the Congress leaders are asked to study how the Congress government deprived the people of Assam.”
Further, the spokesperson said, “The Congress government had set a record of looting and depriving Assam by withholding crude oil royalties of Rs 7,770 crore during the 10- year tenure of then Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. The spokesperson said the BJP government has brought development to the state. The 30,000 km of roads in Assam have been completed under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, and more than 1,000 wooden bridges have been paved. Dual railway lines have been launched in Assam, making railways electrified, and also the infrastructure has been strengthened in various areas,” he added.
Further, he said, “The Dr. Manmohan Singh government has allocated only Rs 58,000 crore to Assam through the 13th Finance Commission, while Narendra Modi has allocated Rs 1 lakh, 55 thousand crore through the 14th Finance Commission and shown sincerity towards the people of Assam.”
