Jail inmate dies, deceased prisoner identified as Samar Biswash

GUWAHATI: A 33-year-old inmate who was lodged at Guwahati Central Jail reportedly died after falling ill in his cell. The deceased prisoner has been identified as Samar Biswash.

Bishwas was lodged in the jail following his arrest in a theft case (896/23). He had been arrested by Dispur Police and sent to judicial custody on May 21. He hailed from the Bamunimaidam area of the city.

Sources said that the inmate suddenly fell ill after which he was shifted to the infirmary of the jail. As his health deteriorated, he was taken to Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) but the doctors declared him dead on arrival. The reason for his death has not been ascertained as yet.
