GUWAHATI: Jal Diwali-Women for Water-Water for Women Campaign-under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs-began in Assam on Tuesday. In Guwahati, the programme was inaugurated by Ashok Singhal, Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs in Kharghuli.

The minister gave a tour of the water treatment plant to the SHG members and also explained the various processes involved in water treatment. He also interacted with the SHG members and emphasized the importance of water and the need to conserve it.

The Jal Diwali programme has been organised in 13 ULBs across Assam, covering 15 water treatment plants from November 7 to On Tuesday, the Jal Diwali initiative was organised in six ULBs of Assam: Dibrugarh, Nagaon, Bongaigaon, Dhubri, Golaghat Municipal Boards, and Guwahati Municipal Corporation.

During this programme, women SHG members of DAY-NULM will be taken to water treatment plants to foster a sense of belonging and ownership among women towards the water infrastructure.
