GUWAHATI: Banasree Sarkar, a resident of Beltola Jayanagar in the city, was remanded to five days of judicial custody on Tuesday following her arrest for allegedly pushing down her 15-year-old domestic helper from the third floor of her residential building.

The domestic helper was severely injured and was admitted to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). She hails from Hatigarh village in the Udalguri district. A case (469/2022) has been registered against Banasree Sarkar at Basistha police station based on a complaint filed by the girl's father under the relevant provisions of the IPC and POSCO Act.

According to sources, Sarkar allegedly assaulted the girl over the past three months and refused to let her contact her parents. Despite the fact that she had been working at Sarkar's home since January, the maid has been paid Rs 1,000 so far, sources added.
