GUWAHATI: Kamrup District has been able to achieve the second-best performance in the current year in the field of flood preparedness and disaster management. The award in this aspect was formally handed over by the Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, to the Deputy Commissioner, Kamrup, Keerthi Jalli, on the concluding day of the fifth Deputy Commissioners Conference held at Tinsukia from May 15 to May 17.
Last year, Kamrup District ranked 16th in the state in this aspect. By achieving best practices and implementing the various parameters of the flood preparedness and disaster management sectors, Kamrup District has been able to get the award of second-best performing district after Tinsukia and Sonitpur District, which got the first position jointly in this aspect. The Kamrup District could achieve high performance in these sectors like risk analysis and monitoring, planning for preparedness and response, infrastructural preparedness, preparedness for continuity of services, coordination for response, capacity building and training, GR and financial assistance, relief camp management, reporting and damage assessment, risk communication and community engagement, accountability and grievance redressal, etc. Based on its high performance in the above-mentioned criteria, Kamrup District has been judged the second-best-performing district in Assam in flood preparedness and disaster management, stated a press release.
