GUWAHATI: In view of the rising water levels in Guwahati, the Kamrup (Metro) District Administration on Thursday suspended all kinds of boats/ferry services till May 31.
The decision was taken in view of public safety and security and in order to avoid any untoward incident.
Meanwhile, according to the Central Water Commission (CWC), Guwahati the water level of Brahmaputra has started to recede in Guwahati. The CWC on Friday stated that the water level was receding by 2 cms every hour. The level was 48.85 cm at 6 am on Friday which receded to 48.70 cm at 5 pm on the same day.
While the level was rising at a rapid pace till Wednesday, it went almost steady on Thursday between 12 pm to 5 pm. The level recorded during this time was 48.83 meters. However, it again rose by 1 cm and at 6 pm and was recorded at 48.84 meters. Now the level is receding by 2 cm in every hour, said the CWC.
