Demand for changing summer vacation schedule of KVs

Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI: The move for changing the summer vacation schedule in Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) in Assam from May-June to June-July seems to be inching towards a logical solution. The Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) has sought views from all principals of KVs in Guwahati Division on the issue with a consultation with all stakeholders – teachers, students, and students’ guardians.

The summer vacation timing has been a contentious issue for the guardians of the KVs in Assam. The KVs declare summer vacation in May-June in Assam as is the case in rest of India. However, the weather of Assam is different from that of rest of India. While the students of all schools under the SEBA (Board of Secondary Education, Assam) stay in door in June-July for summer vacation, the students of KVs in Assam have to attend classes under the sweltering heat. The Kendriya Vidyalaya Abhibabok Santha (KVAS) did submit a memorandum each to the Chief Minister, the HRD (Human Resources Development) Minister, MPs and the KVS demanding a change in the schedule of summer vacation of KVs in Assam from June 20-July 31 against May-June. The issue was also raised in the Parliament by an MP from Assam.

Meanwhile, a team of the KVAS met the Principal of KV, Khanapara here requesting him to send a positive note to the KVS so as to bring the desired change in the summer vacation schedule of KVs in Assam.
