GUWAHATI: The Khadi & Village Industries Commission (KVIC) has been consistently making its effort to promote khadi and rural industries in the North-East region as part of the Government of India's development initiatives, said its chairman, Vinai Kumar Saxena, while addressing a press conference in Guwahati on Sunday.
In this connection, a Prakritik Paint Training unit will be set up in the premises of KVIC, Guwahati which will produce natural paint as well as provide training to the youth for the production of natural paint in the North-East region, he added. Saxena informed that there are 39 Prakritik Paint units functioning in the country and these units use cow dung to make natural paints.
KVIC is implementing khadi and other village industries programmes throughout the country, thereby creating employment for 167.60 lakh people all over India. Among others, the Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme is a flagship programme of the Ministry of MSME, Government of India for which KVIC is the national nodal agency. During the year 2021-22, employment for 8,25,752 people was generated throughout country under this scheme, out of which 67,696 was generated in the North-East zone and 27,968 in Assam.
