GUWAHATI: Reacting to the development that the Kamtapur Liberation Organisation (KLO) wishes to join the peace parley with the government, the Koch Rajbongshi Jatiya Parishad said that the move will bring an end to the long political conflict in the region.

Welcoming the move Koch Rajbongshi Jatiya Parishad (KRJP) general secretary and former president of the All Koch Rajbongshi Students' Union (AKRSU) Biswajit Rai on Thursday said the development has gladdened the heart of every Koch Rajbonghsi people of the state. Rai thanked union home minister Amit Shah and chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for taking the initiative for peace talks with the KLO.

On Wednesday, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had tweeted, "In continuation with Govt of India's efforts to bring lasting peace in the region, I welcome the desire of KLO leadership to join mainstream at an early date to resolve all issues through political dialogues. Govt of Assam would fully reciprocate this goodwill measure."

"The news that KLO chairman Jibon Singha — who is leading an armed struggle for the formation of an independent Kamatapur — is showing willingness to join the peace talks is a very good and positive development. We welcome the decision; and, we expect that the move will permanently solve all the long-standing issues of the Koch Rajbongshi people.

"To carry forward the peace talks between the Centre and KLO and to find an acceptable solution for everyone, we have decided to organize a conclave which will be attended by various organizations, intellectuals, distinguished citizens and academicians from the Koch Rajbongshi community of Assam and West Bengal. The conclave will be held either in December or coming January," added Rai.
