GUWAHATI: One Madan Nath, a Lat Mandal of the Nagarbera Revenue Circle under the Kamrup district, was caught red-handed by sleuths of the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption, Assam while he was taking a bribe of Rs 20,000.

According to official sources, a person lodged a complaint with Directorate of Vigilance &Anti- Corruption that Madan Nath had demanded a bribe of Rs one lakh from the complainant for settling the issue of digging of a pond under the Chief Minister's Amrit Sarovar Yojana in the Sijupara Gaon Panchayat. A trap was laid at the premises of the office of the Circle Officer of the Nagarbera Revenue Circle and Madan Nath was caught red handed at about 3:30 pm immediately after he received a bribe of Rs.20000. The tainted bribe money was recovered from Nath's possession in the presence of independent witnesses and the sleuths' team, the sources said, adding that a case has been registered in this connection (ACB PS case No 21/2022 U/S 7(a) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018).
