GUWAHATI: The Lawyers’ Association of Guwahati opposed the decision to temporarily shift the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court complex of the Kamrup (M) district in the city.

Association’s President Tailendra Nath Das and General Secretary Amal Chandra Baishya, in a press meet, said, “The Lawyers Association, Guwahati, is one of the respectable associations of Assam as well as the Northeast. The Association has about 3000 advocates with an assigned parking lot, seats, and library. The very decision to shift the CJM Court without informing the advocates is not tolerable. We do not accept this decision to temporarily shift the CJM Court.”

An extraordinary meeting was organised on Friday, where various resolutions were taken against the temporary shifting of the CJM court. According to the resolutions, the association will be submitting a memorandum to the Prime Minister, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, the Chairperson of the Bar Council of India, the Chief Minister of Assam, the Governor of Assam, and the Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court.

The meeting also informed participants that there will be agitation in the near future if the decision is not cancelled.
