GUWAHATI: Leader of Opposition at the Assam Legislative Assembly Debabrata Saikia expressed concern for the farmers and daily wage labourers who are in a state of crisis due to the lockdown.
Saikia said that the relief schemes introduced by the Central and State governments have not yet reached to all the beneficiaries.
He said that under the Food Security Act the centre had announced financial assistance of Rs. 1,000 to the needy families. But, the scheme has not been implemented across the State. He requested the State government to implement the schemes of the Central government so that the needy families can avail the benefits. The leader said that people who are stranded at different places are being hit by food shortage. “Farmers are suffering due to shortage of water and fertilizers for their fields. The Government should provide water and fertilizers to these farmers so that they can maintain their fields” Saikia asserted.
