Locals of Dakhin Garolia near Sarusajai Stadium decry water crisis

GUWAHATI: Residents of Dakhin Garolia, a locality near the Sarusajai Stadium situated around 12 kms away from Dispur are in distress due to water and dilapidated road conditions.

Due to irregular water from the GMC (Guwahati Municipal Corporation), around 80 per cent households from the area purchase water.

Five years ago, the State government had set up water tanks under JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency). However, the water supply project has not been completed till date.

The residents said despite numerous appeals to local MLA Ramendra Narayan Kalita, their issues have not been addressed.

The area lies under West Guwahati and several police barracks are also located there. These barracks also lack proper water and sanitation facilities.

"Personnel who provide security to Ministers reside in these barracks. But still the government has turned a blind eye towards them," said a local.
