GUWAHATI: The political parties present at the opposition parties’ meet in a city hotel resolved to work on a common minimum programme and draft a charge sheet against the Assam CM for alleged corruption.

A total of 13 parties, instead of the proposed 12, met at Hotel Lily to discuss issues related to the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in the state. The All India Forward Bloc was the 13th party that participated in the meet held here on Thursday. The number is expected to increase to 15 at the meet scheduled to be held in Dibrugarh by November-end.

APCC president Bhupen Borah talked to the media about the resolutions adopted at the meeting of the opposition alliance.

It was decided that two more political parties—All Party Hills Leaders’ Conference (APHLC) led by Jones Ingti Kathar in Karbi Anglong and Shiv Sena (Assam)—will participate in the next meet of the opposition alliance, taking the total number of parties in the alliance to 15. It was also decided that the next opposition alliance meet will be held in Dibrugarh towards the end of November.

The political parties present at the meet resolved to work together to form mass opinion and map out a mass movement against the allegations of corruption against Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his family.

The opposition alliance resolved to discuss the two pension schemes, which has led to agitations by the state’s employees, at the next meeting in Dibrugarh. The parties also agreed to discuss the BJP’s move to use the employees. It was also agreed that all decisions regarding the mass movement will be taken by a coordination committee of the opposition alliance.

The 13 parties present at the meet agreed to draft a Common Minimum Programme (CMP) for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in the state and a charge sheet against the government for alleged corruption. The BJP’s failure to fulfill its promises made in the Vision document will also be included in the charge sheet. The responsibility of drafting the CMP has been placed on TMC Assam president Ripun Bora. The charge sheet against the BJP government will be prepared by MP Ajit Bhuyan and CLP leader Rakibul Hussain. Both the CMP and charge sheet drafts will be submitted at the meet in Dibrugarh, it was stated.

Candidate-related discussions also featured in the opposition meet. Everyone present put forward their opinions on the issue. Further discussions on candidature will be held in future meets, it was resolved. AJP president Lurinjyoti Gogoi, who was also present at the meet, said, “We will work together to save democracy, keeping above party and personal considerations.”
