GUWAHATI: The Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Guwahati, which is a gateway to 32 domestic and 3 international destinations, recorded a footfall of nearly 28 lakh (27,74779) passengers in the past winter season. This is a sharp increase compared to last year’s nearly 20 lakh (1996567) passengers, showing that air travel is resurging after the pandemic period. Nearly 14 lakh passengers out of them were departure passengers, and the remaining were arrival travellers, which is 38% higher than the previous winter season.
The top three domestic destinations from Guwahati are Mumbai, Delhi, and Bengaluru, and the top two international destinations are Singapore and Paro. Also, the airport witnessed nearly 24,000 movements of flights in the past winter season, which is 34% higher than the previous figure.
The airport also expects a strong surge in traffic during the summer season. As a part of the same, Air India restarts operations between New Delhi and Guwahati on Thursday, with flights three days a week. Bhutan Airlines is scheduled to start its operations at Guwahati Airport on May 16.
