GUWAHATI: An ASI of the Maharashtra Police, who is deployed as a private security officer (PSO) to Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, was reportedly robbed of cash, ATM card and other belongings by some miscreants in broad daylight in the city.

According to sources, the policeman, identified as Darshan Bharti, arrived in the city on Friday morning and booked a room at the Shyam Guest House on AT Road in the Paltanbazar area. He left his room at the guest house after some time and did not return. In the evening, an ambulance driver and a handyman found him lying in an unconscious state on the footpath and took him to the Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH). He was later admitted to a private hospital in the Bhangagarh locality, the sources said, adding that after Bharti regained consciousness his family was informed about his condition.

On Saturday morning, Bharti's son arrived in the city and decided to take him back to Mumbai for further treatment.

Bharti's son told the media that initially the Bhangagar police was informed about the incident, but they did not register any case and referred the matter to the Paltanbazar police.
