GUWAHATI: A fire broke out in the Basista region of the city of Guwahati in the morning hours of Monday, December 5. The locality has been reported to be a residential one and has a large number of people staying there.
The authorities have not mentioned or suspected any reason for this fire as of now. The emergency services along with the local police reached the location soon after the fire was reported.
But the fire completely destroyed the houses in the location. According to ground reports, the residences of several families have been completely gutted in this fire. All property is said to have been burnt in this fire. Several cylinder blasts were also reported by the people of the locality. One two-wheeler is also said to have been damaged in this fire.
The exact location where the fire broke out is mentioned to be the Nepali Basti located in the Amrit Nagar region of New Market in the Bastistha region.
According to reports, the houses have been the residences of several hawkers who sell pani puri and other street food. And locals have speculated that the incident may have started due to some of their activities.
The members of the fire and emergency services are working hard to bring the flames under control. But they are finding several difficulties in the process, the main ones being cramped spaces and no access for fire department vehicles to reach the location. The narrow to no existent access to the location is the main reason for that.
No injury to people or deaths during this fire incident was reported.
