GUWAHATI: The sleuths of the Chief Minister's Special Vigilance Cell called former Congress MP from Lakhimpur Parliamentary Constituency, Ranee Narah, to its headquarters in Guwahati and grilled her today in connection with the alleged misappropriation of MPLAD (Member of Parliament's Local Area Development Fund).

According to sources, in the financial year 2013-14, Rs 1 crore of MPLAD funds meant for the installation of deep tube wells and hand pumps in Majuli in the undivided Jorhat district had been misappropriated. The Chief Minister's Special Vigilance Cell did register a case (4/2017) in 2017 in that connection. In 2019, the Vigilance issued a summons to the former MP but told her later not to appear.

The sleuths of the Chief Minister's Special Vigilance Cell arrested two persons-former Jorhat ADC (Development) Anjanabh Chaliha and Majuli Assistant Planning Officer Jitumoni Dutta-recently for their involvement in the Rs 1 crore misappropriation of MPLAD fund in Majuli.

The arrested duo is in judicial custody now.
