Man arrested by CID, Assam for extortion

GUWAHATI: The CID, Assam has arrested a person for impersonating as a Crime Branch Inspector.

The CID registered a case on Monday vide CID PS case no. 06/2022 U/s 120(B)/419/420/388 IPC against Upendra Pandey, son of Seva Shankar Pandey, who originally hails from Uttar Pradesh but stays in Beltola, Guwahati. He had been impersonating as a Crime Branch Inspector and had been allegedly extorting money from suspects /accused persons in various CID cases under the pretext that he would be able to exonerate them by influencing senior officers of the CID. On receiving this information, the CID immediately registered the case and arrested the accused. He was produced before the court and taken into custody for further interrogation. Searches have been conducted at his residence. CID Assam appealed to people not to entertain such persons and if they come across such activity, they should immediately report to the CID Police Station.
