In some good news for children and elders alike, the Assam State Zoo in Guwahati is now open for visitors. The main attractions this time are the lion and tiger cubs and hippo baby born during lockdown, the red kangaroo, a pair of Capuchin monkeys and six Hyacinth macaws which were seized from smugglers.

Assam Forest and Environment Minister Parimal Shuklabaidya today took a tour of the Zoo while declaring the Zoo open with full COVID protocol. The minister said that Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal would be visiting the Zoo soon.

Every hour 150 people will be allowed to enter the zoo. The timings would be from 8-11am and 1-4pm. Tickets would be available online. The entry ticket fees remain unchanged.

The government is planning to invest another Rs 9 crore for further up-gradation of the zoo. The minister said that efforts are on to make Assam State Zoo the country's best zoo.

The Zoo reopened on Friday after being shut for almost eight months due to COVID situation.
