GUWAHATI: Industries and Commerce Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary attended the Quit India Movement Day observation programme organized by Asom State Freedom Fighters' Association at Mukti Jujaru Jirani Ghar at Rupnagar, Guwahati on Monday.
The Industry Minister paid homage to all the freedom fighters by recalling their supreme sacrifice in attaining India's freedom from the imperialist British rulers, stated a press release. He said that Indian independence movement was largely influenced by the philosophy of Sanatan Dharma which helped the country to gain independence from the British Raj.
Industry Minister added that in the wake of Mahatma Gandhi's 'Do or Die' call during the Quit India movement, people cutting across caste, creed, religions and regions, responded massively across the country. "Mukunda Kakati from Nalbari was shot down in Gohpur along with Kanaklata Barua when they bravely faced bullets in their determined effort to hoist the national flag in the police station," added Patowary.
Patowary called upon the people to take inspiration from the Quit India Movement day to work for a better and bright future of our country. The minister also felicitated the freedom fighters on the occasion and assured to look into their issues and problems.
