GUWAHATI: Industries and Commerce Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary attended the 1stInnovation and Entrepreneurship Conclave - 2022 at IIT Guwahati on Wednesday.

According to a press release, the conclave is aimed at providing an exclusive platform for innovators, industry experts, start-ups, investors, students, entrepreneurs, researchers and policy makers to showcase product, process, prototype, services and exchange ideas to revitalize various research for successful commercialization of product or process.

In his address, Patowary said, "IIT Guwahati has been at the forefront for its cutting-edge research and active involvement in the dissemination of knowledge. Through its various centres of research and development, IIT Guwahati has been able to spark the spirit of entrepreneurship among the young students, support start-ups through guidance and mentorship and convert their ideas into sustainable ventures."

Calling upon the students to innovate ideas for a sustainable future, Patowary stated, "Today is an ever-changing world with rapid growth and transformation in every sphere of human civilization. The 21st century will be dominated by start-ups, Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things and Internet of Everything."

The Minister further added that in its three-year-old journey, Assam Start-up - The Nest has been able to nurture start-up ventures and has been recognized as an emerging start-up ecosystem in India.

Patowary also asked the Director, IIT Guwahati to nurture entrepreneurship in the academic year so that students are future-ready to be successful job providers rather than job seekers.

"Inland Water Transport can collaborate with IIT Guwahati by providing the required technologies for better management of the riverine system. Since Advantage Assam, which already brought investments to the tune of Rs 89,000 crore into the State, Assam has turned out to the favourite destination for investors," he said.

"IIT Guwahati is an outcome of Assam Accord. So I hope that students of this premier institute can take global positions to further spearhead the State's development," said the Minister.

The Industry Minister later on inaugurated an exhibition where young innovators displayed and explained their products.

Prof TG Sitharam, Director of IIT Guwahati; Prof Prabha Shankar Shukla, Vice-Chancellor of NEHU, and other senior officials were present in the meeting.
