GUWAHATI: The city police on Thursday arrested the main accused in the 14-year-old girl Dimpal Kumapati murder case in Guwahati.

Earlier today, the city police have detained three youths in the sensational murder of Dimpal Kumapati.

Dimpal's body was recovered from a pool of blood at their rented house in Uzanbazar, Guwahati on Wednesday.

According to police sources, she was murdered using a pressure cooker and a grinder stone.

The preliminary police investigation into the murder case revealed that 13-year Dimpal was murdered while she was alone in the house. According to police sources the incident happened between 11-30 AM to 12 PM.

Her parents went to their restaurant in the morning. Hailing from Rajasthan, the couple has been staying in a rented house in the Uzanbazzar area for the last ten years.

Further, one of the accused identified as Abhishek Gupta alias Asik has admitted that he killed the girl, who was his cousin's sister, due to an altercation. The Police have also recovered the mobile phone and the SIM card (partially destructed), which he had hidden after the murder.

Earlier, on Wednesday evening, the accused Abhishek Gupta along with two other individuals was detained by the city police on suspicion of committing the crime.

Speaking to the media in this regard, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Central Police District, Rajveer Singh said, "We have taken Abhishek Gupta into custody. He is the cousin of the deceased victim girl Dimpal Kumapati. During our interrogation, Gupta has confessed that he had killed Dimpal due to an altercation. Later, the accused has removed the SIM card from her mobile phone and had hidden it in his friend's house in the Baruwari area."

Dimple was a Class VII student of the Angels of gods School, Guwahati Club.

Sources said that Dimpal's cousin brother was with her yesterday. But he went to buy biscuits from a nearby shop when the murder happened.

According to reports, during the time of the murder, the victim's father said that he had called her daughter at around 11 am which was picked up by Ashish, and the latter informed that Dimple was in the bathroom.

Additionally, a shopkeeper near Dimple's house informed that Ashish had come to his shop with blood on his finger and wanted to buy a band-aid as he claimed that he had cut his finger. The shopkeeper also said that he evidently had fear in his eyes when he came to his shop.

Meanwhile, police said that Ashish and the two other individuals were detained for questioning and are not accused yet.
