GUWAHATI: A total of 13,39,499 applications for land settlement have been received by the government under Mission Basundhara 2.0 and the process of geotagging was expected to be completed by May 31, 2023. However, due to some reasons the geotagging process has not been completed. Geotagging has been done for around 80% applications and the remaining will be completed soon.

Talking to The Sentinel, State Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Jogen Mohan said, “The process of disposal of cases under Mission Basundhara 2.0 will start soon. The Subdivision Land Advisory Committee (SDLAC) in every subdivision will examine the land settlement applications received and send a report to the State Government about the applications which are eligible for land settlement. The government will take the final decision.”

He further said, “This time we have received some applications which are complex. These applications may not be disposed of now. If the Chief Minister approves, we may launch Mission Basundhara 3.0. However, this will depend on the number of applications which are disposed of under Mission Basundhara 2.0. Our target is to dispose of all cases within November 14, 2023.”

To ensure that no applicant resorts to any kind of deceit while applying for land settlement under Mission Basundhara 2.0 and that mandals do not submit erroneous reports, for the first time in Assam, the government has introduced the system of geotagging under Mission Basundhara 2.0. Geotagging is the process of adding geographical identification metadata to various media such as a geotagged photograph or video, websites, SMS messages, QR Codes or RSS feeds and is a form of geospatial metadata. This data usually consists of latitude and longitude coordinates, though they can also include altitude, bearing, distance, accuracy data, and place names, and perhaps a time stamp.
