GUWAHATI: A mock fire drill was conducted at the premises of State Bank of India's (SBI's) local head office at Dispur here on Sunday to test and bolster employees' emergency preparedness.
According to a press release, the drill was conducted under the guidance of State Fire and Emergency Services (FES) and SBI's Premises and Estate Department. A demonstration on rescue and fire control was exhibited in the presence of all the staff members, who were called on the ground floor after a false alarm was set in the building. Due procedure was followed while evacuating the staff members, guided by the designated floor marshals of each floor. As an emergency fire situation was created, the State Fire and Emergency Services from Dispur station responded immediately by sending hydraulic platform ladder and fire tender vehicles. A rescue operation was also demonstrated using the hydraulic platform ladder where two staff members were evacuated safely from the 8th floor of the building after putting out the fire.
Further, a demonstration on use of various types of fire extinguishers was done for the staff members and SBI's Fire Officer Dhananjai Kumar explained which fire extinguisher is to be used for which type of fire. The drill was attended by LM Mishra (CDO, SBI NE Circle), Sujit Dey (AGM,HR), Golap Kaman (AGM,PNE) along with SA Ahmed (SP, FES, Assam), G Choudhary, S Kalita, Anup Gayon and other firemen from the State Fire and Emergency Services, Assam.
