GUWAHATI: A two-day 'MSME Technology Centers Conclave' was organized by the office of the Development Commissioner of the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) from Sunday at Jyoti Chitraban, Kahilipara, Guwahati, to showcase the technological strength of Technology Centers and provide hand-holding support to MSMEs of the NE Region, including other relevant schemes of the Ministry of MSME.
Attending the inaugural session, Minister of State for the Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises, Bhanu Pratap Singh Verma, highlighted the crucial role of the MSME sector during the COVID crisis period. The programme was also attended by Bimal Borah, Minister for Industry, Commerce, and Public Enterprise, Government of Assam, along with other officials.
The MSME sector is a big part of the growth of both the manufacturing and service sectors. It also makes a big difference in the growth of the Indian economy.This sector also generates the second-largest amount of employment in the country, after the agriculture sector. The Ministry is in the process of setting up more such technology centres across the nation to cater to the increasing technological needs of the MSME sector due to its competitiveness in the global market and the demand for skilled manpower to become competitive in the global market.
The inaugural session began with a welcome address and brief introduction about Technology Centers by Sudha Keshari, Additional Development Commissioner, Ministry of MSME, followed by presentations by project managers from TRTC, Guwahati, and FFDC, Kannauj, and a presentation by U C Shukla, Director, Office of DC (MSME).
The technology centres (TCs) have modern technology, machinery, and testing equipment, and their services are offered to the MSMEs at a very competitive price. The Ministry has been investing periodically to upgrade these TCs by introducing the latest technologies such as 3D printing, CAD/CAM, CNC machines, vacuum heat treatment, robotics, process automation, etc.
This conclave is being organized to showcase the functions and activities of various TCs across India to enable MSMEs and other industries, especially those in the Northeast, to avail of the benefits. This event is expected to play an instrumental role in bringing about a positive impact on the socio-economic ecosystem condition of the grass-roots population in India, especially in the NE Region.
