GUWAHATI: The 24th edition of Natasurya Drama Festival organized by the Natasurya Memorial Celebration Committee in association with the Directorate of Cultural Affairs, Assam will be held from August 1 to 7. The weeklong festival will be held at Srimanta Sankardeva International Auditorium and Sri Madhab Dev International Auditorium, Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra, Guwahati.
The festival is expected to treat the audience with dramas on diverse themes. An award will be conferred on actor, dramatist, lyricist, and director Hemanta Dutta, all rolled into one, in the memory of Gyas Uddin Ahmed, the founder secretary of Natasurya. Nine plays will be staged and the inaugural function will be followed by two plays – Mukha Mukhi and Smriti Taar Xugandhi Pakhila – directed by Nayan Prashad. The second day will see two other plays Vagna Pratiswabi and Daat directed by Dr. Jahanara Begum and Anupjyoti Choudhury. The plays to be followed thereafter are Antigonemenia based on Sophocles Greek play, Lalukhola, Junake Dhuwa Aranyat, a biopic drama Murto Bimurto- Neel Dipalee and Jab we Separated directed by Rakesh Bedi from Felicity Theatre, Mumbai. Eminent actor Shweta Tiwari and Rahul Bhusar will treat the audience with their acting skills in this drama directed by Rakesh Bedi.
Addressing the press here at Guwahati Press Club, noted Assamese actor Malaya Goswami and singer and composer Pulak Benarjee both commented that the media is their greatest strength. Upakul Bordoloi said, “We’ve been proudly organizing this festival for 23 years and a huge credit for this goes to the media”.
